My Muse Experience - 16th January
himynameisaslamandilovemusemorethan50cent
Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
I know many of you are anticipating this entry The amazing day started off with me meeting Ashok and Amin at aroud 11.30 and we arrived at Fort Canning Park around 12.30.
When we arrived, there were like very little people. And that's a fucking good sign. Cause that at least ensured us a good position.
Weeeeeeeeeeee. Check out the guy in front of us, he wrote the words Terror Storm on his back like what Matt did during Reading Festival 2006.
We were really early lol.
Sound-people doing the stuff. The humidity must be unbearable for these caucasians.
I know its really pathetic, but if you save this picture, zoom in, you'll be able to see Matt. Bellamy. Lol
And so halfway, ashok, amin and I got hungery. There's always.......Macdonalds Delivery!
As hours passed, the queue got longer.
Then Afiq took a taxi from school and joined us. Thing is, he havent bought his tickets. And the sistic booth only accepted cash and not nets. Hence, Afiq and I(he force me to accompany him) to follow him go withdraw money. Then we reached the SIM, and saw a fellow muse-r.
"Excuse me, you know where's the nearest ATM?"
"Yeah, go down the escalator and turn right"
"Thanks!"
It was around 6.15pm, and we were afraid that the door was gonna open and we'd be at the end of the line. Hence, we ran and ran and ran as fast to withdraw money, and get back in queue, where Herry and Amin were waiting for us.
Lol. What an experience, last minute faster buy ticket wor.
At around 7pm, we were allowed to enter. Screw the queue-cutters. Hahaha.
Yay, we got to be in front wor.
Amin, Herry, Afiq and I.
We had to stand there for like a fucking long time (no doubt it was worth it).
His white Kawai piano. I know nothing about piano, but it looks really nice. Matt started playing the piano at the age of 5.
 Where are you Muse?
His 6 custom made Manson Guitars (aka Mattocasters) are well worth over S$100 000. That excludes all his effects and other guitars that has. Can buy a car with those guitars.
And so finally at 8.45, the band arrived.
Smoke smoke smoke.....the crowd went wild.
The trio came out, and with a cue from Dom, Matt started Knights of Cydonia.
It was so surreal! Afiq and I have been watching Muse on youtube for months. And to see him play that song was fucking awesome. However, the awesome-ness was spoilt.
Due to the overwhelming excitement, everyone from the back (it was a slope) pushed forward, causing people in the first 2 rows (me and afiq etc) to be squashed like sardines. I was leaning forward with thousands of newtons on my back and I could hear my body screaming for help. Due to that, my chest and ribs are partially hurt now. I can't inhale deeply the day after the concert.
It wasnt pushing like, moshing to the music, or pushing for fun. It was like many many people pushing forward and squeezing. There was no room to jump and mosh.
It was disappointing really, the people in front didn't have the opportunity to jump to the fuckingly amazing-and-anticipated-outro of Knights of Cydonia.
Faisal (not from our school) said that Knights of Cydonia was playing at the right moment.
No one's gonna take me alive, the time has come to make things right. You and I must fight for our right, You and I must fight to survive.
Kinda true there. Everyone at the front was trying to heave themselves out and get some oxygen. Lol. If someone fall down, it could be fatal.
Right after the song, Chris unleashed the bass riff for Hysteria. At this point of time, the crowd wasn't pushing forward. Hence, there was enough room for us to jump and mosh to the music.
Followed next was Map of Problematique. You could tell he was playing that song the moment he turned on his delay effect. Woot.
Butterflies&hurricanes was the 4th song. His piano solo was amazing. Most musicians in rock bands can play the piano, but maybe just a few notes. However, Matt's skills on the piano were a testament to his musical ability. Great song.
Aaah, Supermassive Black Hole. This was a good one as well. The crowd yelled SUPERMASSIVE BLACK HOOOLE!
Along the way, the band played their old stuff like Sunburn, Feeling Good and New Born. He played the piano for part these songs.
During Feeling Good, he used a loudhailer to create a voice effect.
Finally! INVINCIBLE! The crowd sang along to every word. I sang my lungs out as though my life depends on it. It was a happy cum emotional moment as I sang it. A fucking dream come true. An epic song as well.
What made the crowd even happier was when the bass intro for Time Is Running Out was played. As usual, everyone sang to this.
The pre-chorus was even better. Matt just walked off his mic and let the crowd sing
Bury it, I won't let you bury it I wont let you smother it I wont let you murder it
...... Again, the crowd jumped and mosh to the music. I got slightly possessed and jumped and dance and bob my head to everything that was played during the show.
Finally, PLUG IN BABY. I remember the days where Afiq and I discussed on MSN how cool it would be to see Matt play that opening riff on stage. But the stage was small, and Matt couldn't spin as much as he did at Reading 2006.
Still! It was good. I would say that Time Is Running Out and Plug In Baby was the crowd's favourite. Indeed.
Then Matt dropped his guitar and the band went off.
"Afiq, is this the time where we cheer for an encore"
After awhile, they came back on and but with Matt using an acoustic. For a moment, I thought they would play City of Delusion. But....it was Soldier's Poem.
Then! Starlight! Everyone clapped along to that. Someone recorded a video.
Click here to see the clapping part.
After that, the biggest and heavist and mosh-esque song. Stockholm Syndrome. We headbang to that song like some crazy people.
That was the last song. Matt threw his guitar to the back. I was rather shocked about that move.
Matt "See you next year!" Dom "Thank you singapore! See you next time!"
Chris, as usual was quiet.
It was an electrifying performance. Every dollar spent on that show.
Being crushed and causing chest pains was worth (but not dying), singing till your lungs shrink due to lack of oxygen, and causing my ears to be damaged temporarily...all in the name of a great show.
The day after the show, my ears were still ringing. Lol.
Here are some pics taken. My camera isn't that good. Hence, the blur pictures. Some of the pics here are taken by other fans who were at the show.
This one was taken with my camera when Soldier's Poem was played. The only chance for me to stay still (at least a little bit).
Not taken by me, I wasn't this far behind wor
Not by me. Btw, nice song Sunburn. Do you see a girl in a yellow tee in the background, well, I was standing beside her
Bought a poster ($10), an the set-of-four badges ($10). Pfft! Wasted money wor.

After the show, I went behind to take a picture.
The entrance. Taken by Ibrahim aka Omar
 Taken by someone else.
Mattocasters were kept immediately after the show.
http://www.stomp.com.sg/stompcast/ On the right side, there are some info about MUSE. Click on them - Knights of Cydonia, Hysteria & Map of Prob. Watch watch watch!
Good quality videos taken by Stomp. Each time I watch it, I get high.
My overal review = fuckingly awesome.
When Muhd asked me about the show, I said 'awesome'. Lol. And he said that it doesnt sound convincing.
I was slightly diasappointed that some songs weren't played. But the thing is, every song they have, is good. Hence, everything needs to be played, which is impossible. Hence again, there'll be songs people would miss.
Songs that I wish they played : Sing for Absolution, Thoughts of a Dying Atheist, Assasin, Exo-Politics and City of Delusion.
Click here to see the complete setlist and concert info. If MUSE came once more, I'd fucking go! Woot.
Herry knows nothing about MUSE. But he went for fun. It looked like he enjoyed it.
Anyway, a fellow MUSE fan recoreded the show with a small mic. The quality was great. No, its not illegal. As far as I know, as long as you don't distribute it for profit-making or commercial purposes, I think its fine.
With that bootleg(a term for recording), I can re-live the moment over and over and over and over again.
It was best night in my life thus far. Singing and dancing/moshing/headbanging to every song. It was so surreal.
Like Afiq said, a dream come true.
Muse isnt about idolising them, its about their talent.
Another good thing is, its very difficult to classify them as a genre. Their music ranges from different genres. At the concert, you can see different types of people - metal, emos, and any normal person who doesnt look like a rocker.
Matt's falsetto voice makes their songs unique. Your money can but his super expensive Mattocasters, but not his falsetto voice.
One last time I'd say...........MUSE was awesome.
Over the next few months, Afiq and I will keep talking about the show.
If I ever have kids, I'll share with them how I queue 8 hours (12pm - 8pm) for the show. Everyone sang along as loud as they could. The 6500 strong crowd sang louder than the 60 000 people singing the national anthem at the national stadium, on 9th August.
Was it worth queueing 8 hours? Getting my ears bad for a few days? Causing my ribs and chest to hurt for a few days? Hell Yeah.
At the end of the show, my polo tee was soaked in my sweat, and other people's sweat. There were alot of girls. During the show, mineral water was passed down. Everyone shared it. Despite the inconsiderate pushing that could get people killed, there were acts of kindess. Since we were right in front, we had to lift some girls up to the security when the girls were on the brink of fainting. It was a true rock band. Woot!
I bought my ticket in early Dec, and waited for a month for this day. I kept my ticket in a really safe place to ensure that I wouldn't misplace it. I'm rather sad that its over. Grr.
Muse > 50-Cent
